Cycling for Change
On May 29, 2010, a team of twelve cyclists and four support crew set off from Cape Flattery, Washington, bound for Key West, Florida - a journey of 5000 miles in 100 days. It was an idea forged in the mind of a passionate Jesuit priest, Father Matt Ruhl, and embraced by a Catholic Charities agency in Kansas City. It was to be a cross-country discovery of the conditions of the poor in America, a call-to-action to address the epidemic of poverty, a fundraiser, and a pilgrimage to pray for a more just society. It was a way to get people’s attention by riding bicycles an absurd distance. It was going to be very demanding and very fun.
